I would like to begin by thanking everyone for your support in our recent Post 532 Officer Elections. The officers that you elected are now on the job and an integral part of our ongoing effort to continue to bring this post back to financial stability and the prominence it once enjoyed. I also want to thank the "outgoing" officers, Terry Estep, Greg Thompson and Rick Hamilton for their hard work, dedication and service the past year. (2 years in Terry's case) They too, were major players in getting us to where we are today. Again... Thank you.
I just returned from the Department of Ohio Convention in Dayton where elections of Department officers were held. We now have a new Department Commander, Lou Dimmerman who is from the Cincinnati area, New Department 1st Vice Commander is Dennis Clausing and 2nd Vice Commander is Bob Klostermeir. We also have a new Twelfth District Commander, Tom Eshelman who will be installed on July 11th.
In this, my second year as your commander, the single most thing that bothers me more than any other.... remains to be, why do we have such low turn outs at our monthly membership meetings. We have a Legion roster of almost 1000 members, yet we struggle to get 20 to 25 Legionnaires to attend the membership meetings. There are a lot of subjects that you could chime in on, "Good of the Legion, Old Business, New Business, and others." The American Legion is about so much more than just a "canteen or a watering hole." We are veterans serving veterans, We serve and sponsor community projects, safety programs, local schools R.O.T.C. programs, A.L. Baseball, Buckeye Boys State, and many others. Get involved and become a part of what the Legion is really all about. Meetings are always first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Thank you, Bernie
